Integrity by Marvin. LoE3-366 glass is now a glazing option for the maker’s windows and doors. The glass uses three layers of silver oxide to provide energy efficiency. Like other low-E coatings, LoE3-366 helps keep heat inside during the winter and outside during the summer, helping to lower homeowners’ energy bills. The glazing also has an improved U-factor and solar heat gain coefficient, both of which allow windows with LoE3-366 to meet standards for federal tax credits of 30% up to $1,500. 888.419.0076. www.integritywindows.com.

Therma-Tru. Using technology once reserved for more expensive lines, the Fiber-Classic Mahogany Collection replicates the grain of mahogany hardwood in a fiberglass door. Simple lines, architectural details, and a range of door-glass options make Fiber-Classic Mahogany ideal for Craftsman, bungalow, Arts & Crafts, and mission-style architecture. Composite top and bottom rails offer increased rot resistance while LVL stiles improve structural integrity. The Energy Star–qualified doors offer insulation and durability, and may qualify for federal tax credits up to $1,500. 800.537.8827. www.thermatru.com.

ODL. The maker’s Low-E glass packages qualify for federal tax credits and can be combined with internal, between-the-glass blinds, which provide a U-factor between, 0.23 and 0.26, depending on the door. Internal Muntin Doorglass Blinds offer both insulation and energy efficiency, the maker says, thanks to a 15/8-inch triple-pane assembly. For additional energy efficiency, the doorglass blinds can reduce solar heat gain by up to 77% and eliminate the need for dusting. 800.253.3900. www.odl.com.

Simonton. More windows in the StormBreaker Plus impact-resistant product line now feature Energy Tax Credit (ETC) glass packages. The glass packages are now available on picture and geometric windows, allowing them to meet U-factor and solar heat gain coefficient requirements for federal tax credit eligibility. The ETC Super Solar SBP glass package includes a 1-inch insulated glazing unit, Super Spacer system, argon gas fill, and low-E or LoE3-366 on the impact-resistant glass. ETC glass packages are also available on the maker’s replacement windows. 800.746.6686. www.simonton.com/taxcredit.

A little leak here, a major draft there. Windows let natural light and openness into homes, but they’re also just big holes in the wall, and can become the most common points of air. The bigger the holes, the more conditioned indoor air is wasted to the exterior, forcing homeowners to crank up furnaces in the winter, air conditioners in the summer, and utility bills all year long. By installing new windows, like those in the slideshow at left, homeowners can seal off those drafts and can also benefit from increased U-factor and solar heat gain coefficients for boosted energy efficiency. All the windows in this section qualify for federal tax credits, available through Dec. 31, 2010.
